Hi Community,
I have a BI report using an excel file stored in one drive. the application date column is showing some dates with time. how can I change this?
The language settings are English UK for Chrome and Power BI is set to use browser language.
I have installed Power BI desktop but it does not allow a live connection to excel files.
is there anyway I can create a live connection which updates my published reports?
Thank you.
@ahsanlhcgov
It is recommend to use desktop to connect to data source which is much better in modelling and format reports, then simply publish to service.
You can not change the date type and format in service, the only option is to change the date/time to date in the excel on onedrive.

you could try to change the data type of that particular column.

Appreciate with a kudos 🙂
I am using Power BI webservice to build the report.
What you mentioned is Power BI desktop. This is what I have.
@ahsanlhcgov If possible please install Power BI desktop and do the changes.
I think we can't change the type of a column from the Power BI service.
Also, try to change the column type in the source file. Refer to this link - https://www.extendoffice.com/documents/excel/3526-excel-convert-datetime-to-date.html

@ahsanlhcgov Excel source will not support live connection. Sources like SQL will support DirectQuery. Could you elaborate on your requirement and current implementation?
