Hello: There are a lot of dashboards which data has not been updated after 2020, so we need to remove those dasbhoad but after that we need to deprecated them and after 2 months remove them. Is there an option in Power BI Service to deprecate Dashboard or sending messsage indicanting that the dashboard will be remove after 1 or 2 month if they are not being used or not notifyng us to mantaim then? For the moment the only solution to deprecate is download, remove them from the original workspace and publishing them in an special Workspace Hay muchos dashboards cuya data no ha sido actualizado despues del 2020 por lo que necesitamos eliminarlos pero antes de eso necesitamos deprecarlos y luego de 2 meses eliminarlos.
Situation: Data source connection failed and visuals doesn't work as expected in pbi on Server. Root causes: OAuth token refresh fails intermittently on PBI server. Hi team , My Power BI model was working fine until recently, but it has now started failing with a circular dependency error. I tried modifying the formula it was pointing to, but this triggered issues across many other calculated fields that depend on it, making it very difficult to update all of them without causing data discrepancies. Is there a way to resolve this circular dependency issue without modifying the existing DAX logic? Any guidance would be appreciated.101Views0likes7CommentsRLS on Semantic Model
Hi team, I have a model semantic published on PBI Service where 8 reports are using this model with base. I need apply RLS just on one report, how can I do this? I'm developing RLS rules onde PBI desktop and this Rules are applyng for all report, but I need it work on just one.Solved2.1KViews0likes3CommentsUnderstanding Power BI B2B Licensing and Embedded Scenarios
Understanding Power BI B2B Licensing and Embedded Scenarios I'm trying to understand how Power BI licensing, Microsoft Entra B2B, and Power BI Embedded work together. I'd appreciate clarification on the following scenarios. Scenario Tenant A owns the Microsoft Entra tenant, Power BI tenant, workspace, semantic model, reports, dashboards, and apps. [email protected] is an external user. Question 1 – B2B Guest + Pro Workspace Assume [email protected] is invited as a B2B guest into Tenant A. The workspace is a Power BI Pro workspace (not Premium Capacity or Fabric Capacity). What are the exact checks Power BI performs before allowing access? Are the checks performed in this order? User authentication B2B guest validation Tenant settings Power BI license validation Workspace/App permissions Semantic model permissions RLS Is this the complete authorization flow, or are there additional checks? Question 2 – Cross-Tenant Licensing If the external user has a Power BI Pro license assigned in their home tenant (Tenant B): Can that license be used to access reports hosted in Tenant A? If yes, how does Microsoft validate the license across tenants? Does the guest require a Pro license assigned in Tenant A, or is the home tenant license sufficient? Question 3 – User Owns Data vs App Owns Data I'm trying to understand the architectural difference. User Owns Data Who authenticates to Power BI? Does Power BI evaluate the end user's identity? Is a Pro/PPU license required? What happens if the user has no Power BI license? App Owns Data Who authenticates to Power BI? Does Power BI evaluate the end user's identity or only the application/service principal? Why is Embedded Capacity required? Why doesn't the end user need a Pro license? Question 4 – Embedded with Existing B2B Users Suppose the external user is already a B2B guest in Tenant A. Instead of accessing reports through Power BI Service, they access them through a secure web application using Power BI Embedded. Is this a supported architecture? Should this use User Owns Data or App Owns Data? Which approach is recommended and why? Question 5 – Recommended Architecture For each of the following scenarios, what is the recommended architecture and licensing model? Internal employees External partners (B2B guests) Customers using a secure web portal Public-facing dashboards When should I choose: Power BI Service B2B Guest Access Power BI Embedded (User Owns Data) Power BI Embedded (App Owns Data) Publish to Web I'm looking for the recommended architecture along with the licensing requirements for each scenario. amitchandak Ashish_Mathur superSolved278Views2likes9CommentsPublishing Reports Permission Errors
Hi, I am looking to publish Power BI reports to send to clients. I have two issues doing this: 1) Power BI won't let me share reports with users outside of my organisation (do I need admin privilege for this?) 2) Even when I send a report to someone inside my organisation, when they click to open the report, they get a Permission required error that they don't have permissions to the underlying dataset. How can I grant them access to this, and would the process be different for allowing clients outside of my organisation access to the dataset? Thanks!Solved277Views0likes6Commentsgateway connection to dynamically take up user credentials
Customer has connected SAP Datasphere to Power BI Service using ODBC connector and On-premises Data Gateway. Previously, the connection used a shared service account configured on the gateway. SAP has now requested a move to user-based authentication, where each Power BI user should access SAP Datasphere using their own SAP credentials. The customer has different SAP access permissions for different users (similar to source-system security/RLS concepts), and they want user-specific access to be enforced based on the logged-in user. Customer has many users like 100 users and does not want to create 100 gateway connections to SAP using ODBC connector. They would like to create few connections with gateway that would dynamically take each user's credentials when they would use the connection. The requirement is not just data filtering; the customer is looking for user-level authentication/pass-through, where the connection dynamically uses the individual user's SAP identity rather than a shared technical account. Based on Microsoft documentation, standard ODBC gateway connections use credentials stored on the gateway data source. Generic ODBC data sources are not listed among Power BI gateway SSO-supported data sources for user identity passthrough. Just wanted to check if there is any possibility for such setup where the gateway connection credentials can be changed dynamically as per user credentials.
Muchas gracias.763Views0likes9CommentsDR Recovery for Power BI application connected to AWS Glue View
Hi Team, We would like to know the process of running a Disaster Recovery drill for Power BI application hosted on MS office cloud and connected by datagateway server to AWS glue views. We got the annual DR report from MS for Power platform DR executed on May 2025. What is the date for next DR on Power Platform? We would like to know does the power platform DR by MS covers and ensure DR for the power BI application as well?387Views0likes4CommentsUSERPRINCIPALNAME() returns wrong UPN in "View as person" — workspace-level inconsistency
I have a minimal single-measure semantic model published to two Premium workspaces in the same tenant. When using Security → View as person in Power BI Service, both workspaces return different results, in both cases i use same person to test (not myself) * Workspace A returns my UPN - not correct * Worksapce B returns UPN of a person i am testing with - correct Both models security is configured identical which makes me believe that it's workspace level differences which i don't really see. what could be the problem for USERPRINCIPALNAME() not to work properly iin workspace A. createOrReplace table Table lineageTag: a9140342-f525-4d13-bff4-e6a945146285 measure User = USERPRINCIPALNAME() lineageTag: 85905759-cf77-474a-b346-9895a71ee527 column Value lineageTag: 31d1fc3d-ba6c-4fc1-8b26-d29e5dfc13be summarizeBy: none isNameInferred sourceColumn: [Value] annotation SummarizationSetBy = Automatic partition Table = calculated mode: import source = {"."} annotation PBI_Id = 7b789289f2fd4e2596bf23ea15967525Solved555Views1like5Comments
