I'm trying to install a new on premises data gateway on a new computer at our organization. I have previously installed a gateway on another computer but we have replaced that one. I am getting an error in the installation:
"The on-premises data gateway installer failed to download. Unable to read data from the transport connection: The connection was closed." With no further information. I have tried running this installation as administrator as well. Additionally, the computer has a wired connection to our network.

Our final solution was fairly easy yet not super obvious. For some reason on the computer that we were installing the gateway on, internet explorer could not resolve a DNS server... Chrome could though (I was posting this from that computer). The installation program uses internet explorer to connect to Microsoft for the download as well as connect to Microsoft's login server so if IE isn't working then nothing will work.
We restarted the computer then opened IE in administrator mode which seemed to clear up the DNS issue. Then we were able to run the installation fine and login to setup the gateway afterwards.
I hope your problem is similar.
Hi @STS_Joshua @JeffW ,
You may encounter installation failures if the anti-virus software on the installation machine is out of date. You can either update the anti-virus installation, or disable anti-virus only for the duration of the gateway installation to complete, then re-enable anti-virus.
Or you can try these steps.
Uninstall the gateway.
Delete the following folder.
c:\Program Files\On-premises data gateway
Optionally apply the recovery key to restore an existing gateway.

Frank

Please help.

We are backup and running today. The install goes all the way through.
The above solution did not fix the issue. The error was pointing to Microsoft not accepting the connections on their side.
Oddly enough I tried again and it installed but then when prompted for my email that I have the gateway registered under the login failed. I uninstalled the gateway and now I am having the same issue as before with the installer failing to download.
We are experiencing the exact same thing. This is also effecting existing Gateways. Unable to update them as that too fails.
