Testing Row Level Security with thin reports

When dataset and report are separated and in separate workspaces, how can row-level security be tested?

My experience is that viewing as role on the dataset cannot be extended to the thin report in a different workspace.

This leaves me unable to test without either (a) asking users to test for me - hardly optimal during development, or (b) having to complete development in single file solution before separating dataset and report - which makes incremental delivery very hard.

Do I need to use an external app (e.g., Tab Editor) or is there another way to test RLS with separated assets?

Hi. My guess is that you need to open both pbix files. The one with dataset and the one without it. Then ctrl+a on the report visuals to select everything one the page. Copy and paste that on the file with the dataset in a new page. Test the RLS. If everything is ok then just quit without saving, if the rules are not ok you still need to make the change in the dataset so, you have it already opened.

If you don't have access to the file with the dataset, then it's not your responsability and you should ask for it.

I hope that helps,
