Tenant and Datasource in different regions

Hello

We have a situation that our Azure datasource is in North Europe but our Power BI tenant in West Europe. Is it mandatory to have the gateway in location in tenant location or can I have it installed where my datasources are there in a VM? My premium capacity is also in tenant location.

Thanks in advance.

Regards

V

Hi @collinq , Thanks for your response.

Yes, latency was the only concern. Will we also have egress charges when data is coming out of gateway in one region to PowerBI in another region? Thanks in advance.

Hey @Vikki91 ,

I am not aware of egress charges in general so I can't help with that part.  Who would be charging that?

HI @collinq Yes mostly from Azure side as the data comes out of the region.

HI @Vikki91 ,

It is not mandatory and they can be separated.  The only issue you might encounter is latency.  You are sending data back and forth between the two locations but for most customers of Power BI that is not really a big deal.
