Tabular / Excel based KPIs are broken

It appears that in the last month or two, KPIs that were imported from an Excel data model no longer work correctly. Specifically, when refreshed due to a slicer or crossfilter, the color and symbol frequently do not match - thus leading to a completely inaccurate result and defeating the point of a KPI. Has anyone else noticed this? (I tried to attach a screenshot, but couldn't get it to work.)

This was an actual bug with the card visualization. A case was filed and the fix was implemented in the November 2018 release of Power BI.

Hi @Anonymous,

I was not able to reproduce. Would you please share your Excel workbook so that I can test on my side via importing it to Power BI desktop? Besides, on your side, does problem always exist when you open a new .pbix file and import the Excel KPIs?

It only happens when using the card visual. On all others that I've tested it works ok. And, to your question, yes, the only way to get the KPIs to work in the model is to import the Excel workbook from the beginning. On the flip side, you can get the same results by using a tabular model KPI with a card visual.
