Hello All,
we have been using a third party domain to sign in to Power BI service(PBI@exprways.com) and we had common credentials for everyone in the organisation to access reports on Power BI service. But now our Admin team are working to create a new domain which will be accessed using Office 365 credentials of each individuals(Ex. john@company.com).
we have only 3 reports in the workspace of our old domain which will now needs to be moved to new domain. I am very new to the domain changes in Power BI and needs to understand the below points when planning for Migration. Please advise.
1. what technical steps are needed to move the reports to new domain?
2. any changes in reports needed if domain changes?
3. technical steps to provide access to users for the new workspaces
4. technical steps to change security roles of the users on report/workspace level
5. email communication to users on what they will need to do to access the new reports and set up MFA
6. steps needed to be taken to remove powerbi from old domain (PBI@exprways.com)
Hi, @unnipbi123
Currently if you want to migrate these resources to another tenant, you have to Download a report from the Power BI service to Power BI Desktop and republish the pbix files to new Power BI tenant. The trouble is that you have to reconfigure data source credentials, schedule refreshes, workspace permissions, RLS etc.
Please refer to this similar thread.
When you share reports to users, Power BI emails the report link to your recipients. You can also consider creating groups for these users and sending a notification email.
If you want to remove powerbi from old domain, you need ask your powerbi admin to unassign the license from the account. Please refer to Close your Power BI account.
