Something odd with model refresh

I have a model, it connects to two datasources, one is an imported sql table that is amended in query editor, the second is a direct connection to a SSAS endpoint.

Basically one is a list of prices and there applicable range, the other is details about sales, quanities prices etc.

The issue is as follows, a quick report has been put together and it only shows prices after 1/10/2024, even though prices go back far further. refreshing the model in the service makes no difference. However if i download the report and dataset, refresh it in the desktop i see all dates. I then republish the report and it shows all dates.

So i have two versions of the same report/dataset combination one with all the data and one with only some. can anyone offer any pointers to what might be causing this behaviour. I need to be able to update the sales and pricing information occasionally as both datasets grow.

Hi @moloughlin,

Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Forum Community.

This sounds like it could be due to a few things. If you're using incremental refresh on the imported SQL pricing table, it's worth checking whether the date parameters (RangeStart/RangeEnd) are set up correctly and whether query folding is working as expected, if it's not, Power BI might be quietly limiting the data to recent dates. It could also just be a case of cached data in the Power BI Service, especially with the SSAS live connection, so try clearing the cache or manually refreshing visuals to see if that helps. Another thing to look at is any role-based security in SSAS that might be filtering out older records depending on who’s viewing the report. And finally, it’s possible that the root cause is outdated credentials or a misconfigured gateway for the SQL source if the gateway isn't set up properly, the import won’t refresh correctly, which would explain why you only see the full data after refreshing in Desktop.

If this helped, please mark the response as the accepted solution and give it a thumbs-up so others can benefit too.

@moloughlinIt might be because of outdated credentials or configurations in Power BI Service that prevent full data retrieval. Check if incremental refresh or query folding is limiting data to recent dates and adjust the settings accordingly. The issue could also be due to cached results in Power BI Service or role-based restrictions in SSAS. Clear the cache, ensure all data source settings are correct, and republish the dataset after a Desktop refresh to fix the issue.
