Slicers speed/ online report speed

Hi guys,

I have problem with slicers performance (date slicer) on Power BI online and I don't know where to start to have biggest impact.

Cache is already turned on, perf. analyzer told me just about perf. of main table. Filters/ slicers are already based on dim tables.

the main report page is basically 2 tables, sliced separately about customer journey from lead to install by lead source
which means that it takes information from leads, costs, CRM, delivery fact tables
and as there are multiple views in other tabs, I don't believe I can reduce granularity of those tables, and I shouldn't if we want to keep good practices of sharing dataset for multiple reports.

I spoke with IT dep. about increasing capacity and they told me that next level costs additional 5k eur/ month.

I was thinking about pre-calculating some of those measures on our server (# of leads/ day/ (source like google, facebook...) but I guess we can agree that it is not scalable if there will be need for new dimension and there will be.

Any advice will be appreciated.

@Anonymous , Is it a direct query or Import model. If it is import model Is slicer coming from a Fact or dimension.

A slicer from dimension would always be faster. Slicer form a table having bidirectional joins would slow.

Its import model,

Slicer from dimension, quite standard "Date table"

bidirectional joins are big no in my data model, so that isn't a problem.

Thanks for the links, I will check them.

Hi @Anonymous ,

You can also use  Power BI Premium Metrics app to determine if the report-hosting capacity frequently exceeds capacity resources.

Please refer to  https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/guidance/report-performance-troubleshoot

I would need to be capacity admin for that, so seems like I can only speak with him, to find the problems for me instead.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Yes, you need admin permission to troubleshot the issue.
