Schedule a refresh on Power BI Service based on Snowflake
- 6 months ago
Hi Anonymous
Can you please follow the documentation below to ensure that you have got everything set up as it appears there are some steps that might need to be configured as well as making sure that your Snowflake is accessible via the public Internet. Set up your Snowflake database connection - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn

Hello Anonymous,
The error you’re seeing is not related to incorrect Snowflake KeyPair credentials. It occurs because you’re trying to create a Cloud connection from a screen that is intended for Dataflows/Datamarts, which has limitations.
For scheduled refresh with Snowflake in Power BI Service, the correct approach is:
- Connect to Snowflake in Power BI Desktop using the Snowflake connector.
- Publish the report to Power BI Service.
- In the Service, go to:
Workspace → Semantic model (Dataset) → Settings → Data source credentials - Click Edit credentials and configure your Snowflake authentication (KeyPair, OAuth, or supported method).
- Once credentials are validated, enable Scheduled refresh.
You do not need to create a separate Cloud connection for a standard dataset refresh.
Microsoft Documentation (Official Reference)
Microsoft Learn — Connect to Snowflake in the Power BI service
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/service-connect-snowflake
Microsoft states:“After you publish a Power BI Desktop file to the Power BI service, you must configure data source credentials for Snowflake in the Power BI service before the dataset can refresh.”
This confirms that Snowflake credentials must be configured under the dataset settings in the Service, not via the separate Cloud connection creation screen.
