Refreshing Dataset with same user in multiple machine from outsite of organization

Hi Experts,

I have my concern relating to Refresh Dataset when I did not connect to organization network.

As I have my client who is using PowerBI service website with dataset is a SQL database server and On-premise Personal gateway, they have give me their account that I can access their PowerBI from my machine. I have tried to refreshing their database from my machine but seem the PBI service from Refresh History status = completed. But seem no data uploaded to the tiles.

As my understanding previously, There should have an error if user tries to refresh dataset from outsite of their organization network. But I this case, when I used their account then I can see Gateway connection still connected to their SQL server and try to refresh then status still showing me "completed"

So I would like to ask, how should I understand the logic of using On-premise personal gate way? Why PowerBI shows me the refeshing status = comlpleted but there is not Tiles get updated?
