Real time Data & Dashboard scheduled refresh

We have a requirement where Database is MySQL and reporting tool is Power BI Pro, we have connected mysql with Power BI and created some reports based on requirement. Now the client requirement is he want to see the data refresh in real time, I have seen an option in Power BI Pro that we can schedule 8 times a day on hour or 30mins basis. Can anyone help me how to configure real time data sync?

or can any one suggest work arounds for this?

Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks !

Aditya

No, it doesn't, but Apache Impala does. You can connect Mysql to Apache Impala and then Power BI connect to Impala in real time.

Data sources supported by DirectQuery in Power BI

The following data sources support DirectQuery in Power BI:

  • Amazon Redshift
  • Azure Databricks
  • Azure HDInsight Spark (Beta)
  • Azure SQL Database
  • Azure SQL Data Warehouse
  • Google BigQuery (Beta)
  • IBM Netezza (Beta)
  • Impala (version 2.x)
  • Oracle Database (version 12 and above)
  • SAP Business Warehouse Application Server
  • SAP Business Warehouse Message Server (Beta)
  • SAP HANA
  • Snowflake
  • Spark (Beta) (version 0.9 and above)
  • SQL Server
  • Teradata Database
  • Vertica (Beta)

Go into your workspace, go to Datasets, click the ellipsis next to the dataset and then go into Settings when the menu appears. From there, you should be able to see the Scheduled refresh item entry.

@davisk_mnst I know that option but the disadvantage is we can schedule 8 times a day in Schedule refresh, but i need a real time data refresh..is there any possible way ?

Thanks!

I know that you are using mysql. What about connecting the data to Apache Impala. https://impala.apache.org/index.html.

That way you can use DirectQuery and have a live connection to the data.

@davisk_mnst FYI, MySql doesn't have DirectQuery option.

No, it doesn't, but Apache Impala does. You can connect Mysql to Apache Impala and then Power BI connect to Impala in real time.
