RLS , dataflows, data sets, and different workspaces

This is driving me nuts. It may not sound like an issue with the service but I am hoping that is where the answer lies.

3 workspaces and generally only 'admin' use the DEV workspace

My report in QA worksapce links to a data set in QA workspace

My dataset in QA takes its data from data flows in QA workspace and it takes the tables used for row level security from the DEV workspace.

The issue

User A can not see his data - nothing not a sausage. When I open the data set and use 'view as' and enter the role and his email or just his email I can see the data.

Question

Am I using the modelling menu - 'view as' in desktop wrong?

Is the dataflow in dev really causing the issue?

RLS only checks USERPRINCIPALNAME()

Thanks

Hi. The only thing I'm thinking is that you might have forgotten to asign the user to the role in Security settings of the dataset on Power Bi Service.

Dataflow shouldn't affect RLS. This is all in Desktop and Service.

Hope that helps,

opened the dataset in desktop and the dude is there. Unfortunatelly as I dont have access to the report / dataset that are being accessed I am guessing. But I promoted a dataset this morning and the change appeared in the App so I am assuming I am working with the right data set.

Thanks

So to put this to rest.

I dont think its my dataset / report etc that caused the issue. I suspect that there has been an issue when deployed by admin.

Unfortunatelly not able to verify one way or another.

😞

Thanks

E
