RLS GROUP: What is this?

I hope someone can answer what seeminly appears to be a simple question.

I want to use "Groups" when setting up RLS. What is a Group????

Is this simply a Distribution List (We use On Prem Exchange)?

Are these setup in Azure Active Directory?

Something else?

Thanx in advance for your help.

Well, the first one would depend on whether you guys are syncing AD to Azure AD or not. If you are not, then absolutely not. If you are, I *believe* you can use those groups in Power BI but I would need to confirm that.

For 2, the group needs to be in Azure AD. O365 uses Azure AD. So, whoever manages O365 or Azure AD, technically they are managing the same directory.

Yes, those are groups setup in Office 365/Azure AD. If you are syncing your AD then all of your AD groups will be available in Office365.

Thanx Greg for the quick reply. For additional clarity:

1. I CANNOT setup a distribution list in On Prem Exchange and use that as the GROUP in RLS config?

2. I'm still not clear on where the Group is setup. Is it with the O365 Admin (We don't really use O365 in our company) or our Network team managing Azure Active Directory?

thanx again
