Publish to Web when Azure private end points enabled

Hi Community,

Recently within power bi service our IT department enabled azure private endpoints (via the power bi admin portal & and the prerquiste vm setup) to improve security. Subsequently we have notcied that a few reports we published to the web no longer work and simply say "this content isn't available". The ability to publish to the web is enabled in the power bi admin console but I assume that the azure private link recently implemented is preventing the ability to publish to the web? The various microsoft documentation seem to support this assumption but just wondered if this is the likely cause (limitation of using private link) and if there is any potential work around or adjustment to the private links that would enable us to have both publsih to the web ability and private end points?

Many thanks for any help.

Hi @Paullangdell

Could it be due to this limitation: Single sign-on data query models

Here are more details on all the limitations and i would think that the private end point could be one of them, not currently listed.

Hi @GilbertQ

Firstly, thanks for your suggestion.

I've checked this and it doesn't seem to be the case.

I even created a very basic report with excel as the data source and published this to power bi service and then tried to publish this to the web. Sadly received the same result - "this content isn't available".

The MS document I found that mentioned private links creat a limitation with power bi publsihing to the web is here: Private endpoints for accessing Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Docs

Assuming this is the cause of the problem I'm wondering if there's a way where we can keep the private links (or configure it differently) and also retain the ability to publish to the web from power bi service.

Hi @Paullangdell

Could you confirm that they have enabled Publish to Web in your tenant settings?

I am not sure how else to work around this issue if it is a limitation!
