Problems with Analyze In Excel using Power BI Pro for GCC

Hello,

I am having a very hard time understanding what exactly is required to for me to succesfully use the "Analyze in Excel" feature within the PowerBI Service.

Some specifics about my situation:

1. I use PowerBI Service for Government (Power BI Pro for GCC) (app.powerbiggov.us)

2. I have updated the Microsoft Analysis Sevices OLE DB to the latest version (15.2000.654 at the time of this post)

3. I access my dataset I want to analyze in Excel through my PowerBI service, which I have full Admin rights.  The PowerBI application has organizational access and the report settings are set so that users can download the summarized and underlying data.  I believe I have "opened up" all available permmissions settings so that it allows for access to the data model.

4. I select "Analyze in Excel" and it exports a Excel workbook.

5. I open up the workbook and upon enabling edit/content settings,  I get a "The HTTP server returned the following error:  Forbidden,  Activity ID: "xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx" error.

6. I click ok, and then it immediately prompts me to login to Azure Authentication, using my organization login credentials (odd because we don't have Azure?).

7. I log in using my creds, and then it gives me another error saying that a PivotTable, cube function, or filter control using the connection 'pbiazure://api.powerbi.com xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx Model' didn't refresh.  Continue to refresh at all?

8. I say ok or cancel and it doesn't make a difference.  I have a "Model" but no data attached to it.

I have researched this a lot already and have followed recommendations such as those recommended here https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Service/Analyze-in-Excel-error/m-p/904517#M85122 and here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/collaborate-share/desktop-troubleshooting-analyze-in-excel

My app does have a data model - I can validate this because I can connect my app to DaxStudio just fine and it loads the data model with all the associated tables used in the app.

So, what am I missing here?  I would appreciate some suggestions.

Hi @kmartinenko

If you cannot see the option in the Admin Portal you will have to contact your IT responsible for managing the admin settings.

Hi @kmartinenko

Can you make sure that your Power BI Admin has not disable the Analyze in Excel option in the Power BI Admin Portal?

Or you might need to be added to the list of people who can use Analyze in Excel. This is what it looks like in the Admin Portal.

And here are more details on what the requirements are: Analyze in Excel for Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Docs

@GilbertQ

Thanks for the advice.  First of all, I am setup to be an administrator of the organizational Workspace this is stored in, but when I access the Admin Portal, I see very few options here.   In fact, I see nothing at all in terms of things I can switch on or off.

Again I am on a Pro GCC account - so would I presume I would need to contact my IT responsible for managing our tenant license?
