Problems to update data: Power BI connected to a excel file (one drive) working with MacOs

We are uploading several pibx to  https://app.powerbi.com/ in order to work with MacOs. The pibx uses data from an excel file storaged in Onedrive

When we try to update data (the owner) from the excel we receive the message.

Something went wrong

There is no available gateway.

How can we make available a gateway?

Should be virtual (to access one drive file published in sharepoint) or local to access directly one drive?

Do we need Power BI Pro?

Thank you

Hi. If you configure the Power Query when getting data correctly, then you don't need a gateway. Power Bi Service can read Onedrive directly as a cloud source. You can check how to do it for onedrive for business or onedrive personal in here:

https://blog.ladataweb.com.ar/post/185337134590/alternativa-para-conectar-power-bi-a-onedrive

Once your pbix is using that kind of connection, then you can publish to Service. Then open Service, go to Semantic Model Settings and edit credentials under Data Source Credentials menu. With all that done, you can schedule refresh the dataset.

PowerBi Pro is required if you want to work with other person. If this is a personal development you can work it at "My Workspace", if you need to share it, then yes, the developer and the viewer need pro. You can create a workspace with pro to collaborate with mates.

I hope that helps,

Thank you, finally we could:

1) connect a pbix report (opened in Power BI Desktop windows OS) to an excel file stored in on-drive using its SharePoint URL.

2) in a second step we published the report in Power BI on line

3) change authentication to OAuth2 in Power BI on line to connect the report to the personal cloud

As you said we don’t need any gateway.

Regards
