PowerBI semantic Model refresh

Good afternoon eveyone, I am having an issue trying to refesh the semantic model. Just to start, I am self starter so I do not have a formal IT training.

when I am trying to refresh the semantic model I am having this error:

Data source error: {"error":{"code":"DMTS_OAuthFailedToGetResourceIdError","pbi.error":{"code":"DMTS_OAuthFailedToGetResourceIdError","details":[{"code":"DM_ErrorDetailNameCode_UnderlyingErrorMessage","detail":{"type":1,"value":"Failed to get OAuth resource, please make sure the OAuth is supported"}}],"exceptionCulprit":1}}} Cluster URI: WABI-WEST-US-E-PRIMARY-redirect.analysis.windows.net Activity ID: 788a9051-2656-1b4e-949a-aa845bdcf9ad Request ID: 73e90664-7e1a-3c99-1f04-874d5bb02ec3 Time: 2025-12-19 18:09:49Z

if i do not missunderstand, it is an issue validating the user in the data source that an excel file in sharepoint.

this is the set up that I have but tried the other options and all of them failed. Any suggestion?

Hi @ferransaie ,
Thanks for the update. This error usually means OAuth is not enabled or supported for this data source at the tenant level. You’ll need to check with your system/admin team to confirm the allowed authentication methods or switch to a supported one (for example, Organizational account or service principal if applicable). Once the admin settings are updated, the semantic model refresh should work as expected.

This error is caused by authentication to the Excel file in SharePoint.
Power BI Service cannot refresh the semantic model because the OAuth credentials are not valid or not supported for the current connection.

Edit the data source credentials and:

  1. Change Authentication method to OAuth2

  2. Sign in with a user account that has access to the SharePoint file

  3. Keep the privacy level as Organizational (recommended for SharePoint)

It seems that nbow I have another issue but it looks as I should be able to solve it with the system Admin.
