PowerBI Embedded Question... Dynamic Filtering based on customer/client

Hi,

I want to explore PowerBI embedded.  My understanding is that you can pass a parameter into the PowerBI embedded chart and this will automatically filter.  Therefore, if I call a URL that contains a clientID GUID containing the PowerBI chart, so something like:  https://blahblahblah.azurewebsites.net?clientID=abc, then the chart will automatically filter by ClientID using the GUID.

Please can someone advise how this is done and how I go about putting this in place? I haven't played with parameters for filteirng, only the filters you can set within PowerBI for Visual or Report level (i.e. tab or entire report).

Your advise or links where I can read about it will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

HI @SachinC,

Do you mean url filter on embed report? If this is a case, current it still not support dynamic filter parameter.

Reference link:

Filter a report with a URL query string parameter

Filter a report using query string parameters in the URL

BTW, I think dynamic RLS based on username will suitable for your requirement.

RLS with UserName()

If you want to also enable RLS on external users, you can refer to below link:

Distribute Power BI content to external guest users with Azure AD B2B

Notice: above  feature not works on reports which embed with 'publish to web' feature.
