PowerBI Dashboard not respecting filters on selection

Hi All,

I'm having some issues with the use of dashboards.

We have a requirement to build reports for a multitude of facilities, with each facility having a variety of processes. Each facility may have the same process as another, although not always.

The solution we've pursued is to build a report of each process which has all the detail required and some summary visuals that aggregate all the data into a simple view.

The design then was to apply the filters to restrict the report to a single facility and then pin the visuals to a dashboard. This way multiple reports could be spun together without a single report being too large, and felexibility in being able to link the processes together.

This has all worked, the next step was to be able to click on the visual and it opens the report with the filters that were applied when the pinned visual was created. This is where we have issues, it keeps opening the visuals with the last configuration that the report had, not the configuration that was applied to the visual. This is somewhat confusing, as the values that are in the visual don't match what appears when the report opens.

Has anyone come across this issue and developed a solution?

That's working as designed. You should raise an idea for applying filters back from tiles to underlying reports, but I can see how that would be rather hard to implement.

Right now the meta data transfer from report (visual) to dashboard tile is a one way street and a one time event at that.  For example when you pin a visual to a tile and then change the visual filters that change will not reflect in the tile at all. You can even delete the visual and the tile will continue to work just fine. It will only get confusing when you click the tile and then it panics because it can't find the underlying visual any more.

Thanks for that. Will need to consider how best to link all the reports together. Fortunately for the short term it will work, just need to consider a longer term idea.

Will raise an idea to see what else can be done.

It feels like Dashboards have very neich use cases if youd have to pin the whole page to a dashboard to include filters. They are almost useless

Dashboards are designed to display real time information on hall monitor screens. They are not designed for interactivity.
