I have 4 excel .xlsx files that are created from an Alteryx workflow.
The files are on a network drive that a gateway has been created to connect. Three behave normally, one will not.
I connect Power BI desktop to the excel workbook and refresh, but the new data will not appear in the report.
There are no errors on the refresh. The excel file is being updated with the new data.
If I go to the excel file location and open it and save it, the new data will then be freshed in power bi/power query.
I have tried all the standard fixes.
Checking the the file path (I did a reconnet for my source),
I have checked for filters (the data does not show in power query at the source level before any steps are applied.
I have made sure that "Enable load" and "Include in report refresh" are checked
All permissions and gateways are correct.
I connected to the same file again in power query as a "New Source" but it still did not show the new data, untill I opened and saved the excel file.
The only thing I can think of is that one time I may have opened the source file to manually remove or add data. Could that be preventing power bi from recognizing new data when it is added automatically from the alteryx workflow and needed to resave every time?
Is there any fix to this at all?
I cannot be opening and resaving the excel file manually every time the data updates.
I have three of the exact same type of excel files and the new data in those are refreshed atutomatically.
I have exhausted all my resources to fix this.
Thank you,

Hi @kris_m
Can't be power BI or in power query the issue. It's more likely the workflow to that Excel file has been broken after you manually added or removed data in it.
Some times adding data with different format in an attribute could harm the field therefore the workflow is broken.

And the solution is....
I had to run the Alteryx work and recreate the file again. I saved the old data in an archieve in case it is needed later and started over. With the new file now being added to all the refresh on Power BI is working as should.
So the rule is. If you are creating and excel file with an automatic process (Alteryx in this case) Do not go into said file and change anything! My group is now working to find a better solution than .xlsx or .csv

Yes, definitely you need to save your file after making the updates , otherwise it will always take the previous version, this is expected

Have you tried changing the file format? For example, instead of generating .xlsx files try .csv, please test.
