Hi @AshDil
The error message “The file couldn't open in Protected View” in Excel, which users are now encountering after exporting data from a Power BI report in the Power BI Service, is related to Excel’s security feature known as Protected View. This feature is designed to protect users from potentially unsafe files downloaded from the internet or email attachments by opening them in a read-only mode. However, in this case, Excel is unable to open the file even in Protected View, which is often caused by recent updates in Excel, stricter Windows security settings, or changes in how downloaded files are tagged by browsers or managed by organizational policies. Previously, users may not have experienced this issue due to more relaxed security settings or older versions of Excel. To resolve it, users can try right-clicking the downloaded file, going to Properties, and selecting “Unblock” if the option appears. Additionally, they can adjust Excel settings by going to File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Protected View and unchecking the relevant boxes to disable Protected View for files from the internet. If this issue is widespread, it’s advisable to consult with the IT department, as it might be caused by a recent group policy or antivirus change that impacts all users.
