Power BI Dataset Refresh fail

Hello Power BI experts. I am facing an issue in one report. My project team has made the IP of SQL DB private so whenever I have to refresh the report, I should be on VPN via FortiClient. I have managed to configure the Gateway but this also becomes offline when I disconnect the VPN. Is there any way we may refresh the BI report with a private IP?

I am thinking of getting the Virtual Machine with a static VM and then requesting my client to wishlist this IP. If there is any better solution, please help. Thanks

Hey @Anonymous ,

if you have to use to a gateway, then you have to have a statip ip for the gateway, and this ip needs to be whitelisted. Probably Firewall rules are involved as well.

Regards,

Tom

Hi I have established the on premesis gateway. Kindly guide me about the tenant steps. I have the access of it

Hi,

What is the status of the connection is it showing online or offline?

It is online but I should be on VPN to access the DB due to private IP.

Hi,

Are you running vpn app on your gateway VM?

No VPN is running from FortiClient. Challenge IS Power BI Service will also only refresh the reports once VPN is active on desktop. Any solution to this? other than I have to go for separate VM and then I request to Network team to wishlist the IP of VM (having static VM)

Hi,

I'm not sure but I have a doubt. Why can't you make VPN activate on the on-premises data gateway VM? Are they on different networks?.As per my knowledge there will be a VM for every gateway in the cloud where we add TNS entries or ODBC connections for on-premises data gateway connections.
