Organizing Workspaces, Users, and Development in Power BI & Fabric for Business

Hello,

I’m seeking advice on how to effectively organize workspaces, manage users, and structure development processes in Power BI and Microsoft Fabric for a business environment. We want to ensure scalability, security, and efficient collaboration across different teams.

Here are some key areas I’d appreciate insights on:

  • How to structure workspaces for different business units (e.g., development, testing, production) and how to handle reports versus Fabric-specific components like dataflows, datasets, and lakehouses—where should these be stored, and how should they be organized?
  • Best practices for assigning user roles and permissions across departments, ensuring proper access controls for different types of content (reports, data, etc.)
  • Managing development vs. production environments, and setting up clear deployment pipelines
  • Tips for collaboration between developers, business analysts, and end users to streamline the report-building process

Any examples, best practices, or tools that have worked well in your organization would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi @harstiaj

I would suggest reading the usage scenario documentation. documentation supplied by Microsoft, which will allow you to go through the different usage scenarios and where you can find the best fit for purpose for what your requirements. Here is the link. Power BI usage scenarios - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
