On-premise data gateway refresh fails when merging two tables from different web content sources

I created data model that uses few data sources frome online web content.

For example (Xml.Tables(Web.Contents("http://......./?year=2019")))

The model refreshes successfully from the desktop version.

After publishing the model, i m able to select on-premise data gateway to refresh the model

(gateway version 3000.0.144.3 October 2018 )

The problem appears when one of the tables uses two sources by merging them.

When i try to refresh the model i get an error message:

"Cannot connect to the mashup data source. .."

When the model is using the same sources withot merging them, all works fine.

Anyone have a feedback?

Hi @nellys,

Is there any advanced options in query editor?(e.g. append, merge, invoke custom function, reference another query) AFAIK, power bi service not support to refresh report who contains custom functions.

Maybe you can try to use two queries to get data from different datasources, then use create new query to combine these queries tables to one.

In addition, have you update your datasource credentials on service side?

BTW, cloudy data source not need to use gateway handle refresh, you can refer to GilbertQ's suggestion to turn on option to use a gateway to manage refresh operation.

@v-shex-msft, thank you four your suggestions,

1. I tried now to separate the problem, as you suggested:

I created two separate tables from two services - the the gataway refresh works exellent/

I created addition table, that merging (by merge command) two previous - fails with "Cannot connect to the mashup data source".

2. An option to use a gateway to manage refresh operation is turned on

Hi there

What are the Privacy settings set to for the 2 table sources?

Hi @nellys

I would suggest to first make sure you are using the latest version of the On-Premise Data Gateway

https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/gateway/

And then ensure that you have got the following configuration enabled on the Power BI Gateway in the Power BI Service

@GilbertQ , Thank you for your reply.

The on-premise gateway version is from October, 2018.

And yes, the check box is selected.
