Hello,
I created an on-prem gateway, registered it and added the dataset. The connection is showing as successful, but in my PowerBI service Workspace, I do not have any dataset available. The database is about 200MB. I have been waiting for an hour now.
do I need to wait longer? do I first need to do anything in PowerBI Desktop? I would like to just use the PowerBI service.
Thank you!

Hi @oddtime,
Actually, we usually add data source to Gateway to set schedule refresh ranther than connect data source. So when you add data source to on-premise Gateway, you won't find the dataset in your worksapce.
For your scenario, you could get data from SQL databse in Power BI Desktop and create your report, then when you publish the report to Power BI Service, you will the the dataset in the Datasets list.

Cherry

Could you describe in more details for your scenario? Why do you configure the on-premise gateway and add the data source? Do you want to set the schedule refresh? What do you want to do in Power BI Service?
Have you published some reports from Power BI Desktop to Power BI Service? If you have published the report to Power BI Service, you will see the dataset in Power BI service.

Hello,
I thought I could crate the gateway, connect the SQL databse to PowerBi service and stat creating reports within app.powerbi.com, without having to use Power BI desktop. I guess that does not work.
I have no problem publishing the dataset via Power BI Desktop and then seeing the Dataset in app.powerbi.com and scheduling the refrsh. I just though I could cut out the whole part of using PowerBI Desktop. Kind of redunant if you ask me.
