New data source from analysis services

Hi,

I have connected a report in the PowerBI desktop with another report that is already published and everything is working properly.

published report

However, when I publish the new report in the https://app.powerbi.com/ , I need to create a new data source.

Altough i fill in all the required data, an error occurs as per attached screenshot.

You valuable assistance will be highly appreciated.

Dear @v-yueyunzh-msft thank you for your feedback.

However, the issue still persists and the same error occurs.

Please note the following points, in case I am missing anything:

  • "We need to have build permissions for the first dataset".
    • I am working as admin, thus i understand that i am ok and no further actions are required.
  • "We can click "Edit credential" and choose "OAuth2" and then login our Power BI account."
    • When I click edit credentials I have only the "windows" authentication option. FYI, the initial dataset is retrieving data from additional sources (i.e. .xlsx from PC)
    • However when i edit the credentials from the following location, there is a selection for "OAuth2" but another error exists.
    • Screenshot 2022-09-30 132723.png

I would appreciate your further assistance on this.

Thank you

Hi , @technologyLMM

Based on your error message, you can check for the following restrictions:

Thank you for your reply.

The "Allow XMLA Endpoints and Analyze in Excel with on-premises datasets" is already enabled and the same error continues to exist.

Could you please advise if I am missing anything else? I have PowerBi pro subscription.

Hi, @technologyLMM

If you are a Power BI Pro licensee, you can create a support ticket for free and a dedicated Microsoft engineer will come to solve the problem for you.

Hi , @technologyLMM

You can see the "View Linkage" of the dataset , if the datasouce is related to the dataset in your workspace, like this:

vyueyunzhmsft_0-1664413909597.png

When we want to refresh the second dataset, we can see that the dataset is associated with the first dataset(it just like a cloud data source), so we only need to configure the credentials for the first dataset in "Data Source Credential" (We need to have build permissions for the first dataset).

vyueyunzhmsft_1-1664413930411.png

We can click "Edit credential" and choose "OAuth2" and then login our Power BI account.

If the second dataset is connected to another data source, we need to add data source credentials for the data source as appropriate.

Aniya Zhang
