The service seems ot have fixed the bug, it was no action on my part and it just started working. At least this issue is now solved for my workspace and reports.

I encountered the same frustrating issue where my Fabric workspace stopped syncing with DevOps Git. After days of troubleshooting, I discovered a solution that might help others with the same problem.

When I tried to sync an existing branch to a new workspace, it worked perfectly. Similarly, syncing an existing workspace to a new empty branch also worked without any issues. However, linking the existing branch back to the existing workspace resulted in a sync failure.

After much investigation, I realized that some items were still linked to a data engineer who no longer worked at the company. To resolve this, I took ownership of all items linked to his name. Once I did this, the sync issue was resolved within a few minutes.

In my case, the problem was related to the ownership of items. Although I couldn't pinpoint exactly how the owner of an item affects the git branch, taking over ownership resolved the sync issue.

If you're experiencing similar problems, check if there are any items linked to former employees and take ownership of them.

I have the same problem for past 2 days. It is definetely a power bi service issue in my opinion. We have two stage deployment, first one deploys git to development workspace and from there we deploy to prod. Until recently deploying to Dev was flawless, now i am getting same error: Import failure: UnknownError. Content provider provided invalid package content stream

The odd thing is that now one report that was already in dev but not prod, cannto deploy to prod, that workspace is not connected to git. Meaning this cannot be a publishing problem if it went through stage 1, i think the service got broken somewhere.

Hi @dheeraj10,

Thank you for using Microsoft Community Forum.

Follow the below troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:
Go to Workspace Settings , Git Integration, disconnect Git and manually delete any cached Git files. Then reconnect and try syncing again.

Pull the latest changes from Git or re-clone the repository to ensure you have a fresh copy without any corrupted files.

Instead of syncing everything, try syncing a single report to identify if a specific file is causing the issue.

If none of the above steps work, try creating a new branch in your Git repository. Copy only the valid reports and configurations into this branch to ensure no corrupted files are carried over. Then, sync your Fabric workspace with this new branch and check if the issue is resolved.

Hi Sahasra,

I tried all the options you mentioned above but still facing same issue for all the options.

Semantic model seems to be getting synced with the workspace but when it comes to report it gives the same error mentioned in original post.

Hi @dheeraj10 ,

Thank you for trying all the suggested steps. Since the semantic model syncs successfully, but the report still fails with the same error, this may indicate an issue with the report files in Git. To troubleshoot further:

  • Verify the report’s connection to the semantic model. Open the report in Power BI Service, go to Edit Report, and check if the dataset is correctly linked.

  • Create a test report. Publish a new, simple Power BI report to Git, then try syncing it. This helps determine if the issue is with specific reports.

  • Download and open the report in Power BI Desktop. If the report opens but has errors, this could indicate corrupted metadata.

  • Check service logs for more details. Look for errors related to reports in the Power BI Fabric workspace logs.

I hope this helped! Feel free to ask any further questions. If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accept as Solution" and give us Kudos to assist others.

Thank you.
