MySQL POINT type is treated incorrectly

I have a field in my MySQL table that is a POINT type (has lat, lon data in it).  Power BI thinks its a "Binary" type.  Currently it's unreadable.  I'd like to use the lat/lon inside of this field for a geo map.  Any tips?

Thanks!

Hi @rblalock,

I'd like to suggest you format point type to other type at mysql side, then get data and manual analysis the formatted column at power query side.

You can take a look at below link which about format:

13.15.6 Geometry Format Conversion Functions

Seems like that's a bit extreme to format tens of millions of rows of data from something that you're supposed to do in MySQL when storing lat/lon, to something that will work with PowerBI.

Current, power bi not support to analysis these type, so you had to do these steps at mysql side or write to t-sql query.
