Monitor usage metrics for the public
Hi Power BI Community,
Our lab and center have been heavily using PowerBI to visualize our research outputs. I learned that PowerBI has enabled users to track internal usage. But I was wondering if PowerBI has the function of monitoring usage metrics for the public such as Google Analytics since we usually embed our PowerBI dashboards on our website/webpages.
Please advise.
Thank you,
Weixing
Hi Anonymous ,
I think that could be tough. There are all sorts of potential reasons why that is not feasible, including:
- Performance data and Report Page View metrics rely on the client/device sending data to Power BI. Depending on network latency, ad blockers, firewalls, and network rules set by your organization, this data may never reach Power BI. Therefore, the performance and Report Page View data may not include all views or all users.
- User masking isn't working as expected when using nested groups. If your organization has disabled Per-user data in usage metrics for content creators in the Power BI admin portal tenant settings, only the members on the top level are being masked. Members of subgroups are still visible
See this link for more considerations:
Monitor usage metrics in the new workspace experience (preview) - Power BI | Microsoft Docs
That said, you do get to see the number of and method of users that accessed the report - including embedded or service (in the platform part of the metrics report).

However, our audiences, who could be anyone probably without PowerBI account, usually come to our webpage and use the dashboard. How can I monitor how the dashboard is being used such as the number of clicks of certain buttons?
