Since the weekend of 25–26 April 2026, existing published Power BI reports in Power BI Service have started showing incorrect Matrix visual column width behavior. The reports have not been edited or republished.
The issue occurs in both view mode and edit mode in Power BI Service. The trigger appears to be resizing the first column in a Matrix visual to be narrower than the displayed text/header content. After that, all columns in the Matrix reset or expand and end up with the same uniform width.
Previously saved manual Matrix column widths are no longer preserved. This appears to be a Power BI Service-side Matrix visual rendering regression related to column width handling, autosizing, fit-to-width behavior, or text overflow handling.
We are experiencing the same issue and have already opened a support ticket.
To be candid, the suggested workaround is not feasible for us, as it would require updating all existing reports.
We would appreciate it if you could either roll back the recent changes or provide a fix as soon as possible.
Thank you.
Hi @tt_and ,
We haven’t received any update from your side. Please let us know if you need any additional details or clarification.
Thank you.
HI @tt_and ,
As multiple users seem to be facing similar behavior based on the discussion, please let us know if the @v-kpoloju, shared workaround helps on your end.
If you need any additional details or clarification from our side, please feel free to let us know.
I’m experiencing the same issue.
A temporary workaround is to go to:
Format visual → Column headers → Options → Auto-size width
Then disable Auto-size width and enable it again. This restores the expected column widths, but the issue returns as soon as the row headers column is manually resized.
@tt_and - did you get a workable solution to your problem that started at the weekend, or are the matrix column widths still broken? I've started a new post here as I don't believe that it is only me with the problem: (1) Matrix visual column width problem started April 2... - Microsoft Fabric Community
Hi @tt_and,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.
Based on your description, this behaviour appears to be related to how Matrix visuals handle column sizing in Power BI Service. As per Microsoft documentation, Matrix columns can automatically adjust their width depending on content and layout settings (such as auto-size or fit-to-width behaviour), which can override previously applied manual resizing especially when a column is resized smaller than its content.
As a workaround, please try disabling Auto-size column width in the Matrix formatting pane and then manually resizing the columns again. Microsoft also notes that fixed column widths are not strictly enforced in all scenarios, so manual adjustments may be impacted by visual layout behaviour.
You can review the following official documentation for more details:
1. Matrix visual format settings: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/visuals/power-bi-visualization-matrix-visual-format-setti...
2. Create a Matrix visual in Power BI: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/visuals/power-bi-visualization-matrix-visual
3. Matrix visual considerations and limitations: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/visuals/power-bi-visualization-matrix-visual-consideratio...
If the issue started recently without any report changes, it may be due to a change in how the service applies these layout behaviours. Reapplying the layout from Power BI Desktop and republishing can also help ensure consistent rendering.
Hope that clarifies. Let us know if you have any doubts regarding this. We will be happy to help.
Thank you for using the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.
We can't practically edit and republish the 100s of impacted reports.
Yes. Since several users are reporting the same issue, and it began at the same time without any changes to the report, it seems likely that this is a recent Power BI Service side problem with Matrix column width. The temporary workaround of toggling Auto size width might help for now, but feedback suggests it’s not a permanent solution.
If there was a recent service side change causing this, could you share where that information was found? This would be useful for others facing the same issue. If the problem is significantly affecting your work, you may want to raise a support ticket with Microsoft for further investigation.

Thank You.
You can change the the width of columns for the first time. But when you have a date picker, then with every date change the width is messed up again...
