Manage Credentials Used When Connecting to Data Source

Hi all,

I have a Power BI report currently connected to Azure SQL using SQL Authentication. I am trying to update the data source to connect using a Microsoft Account instead.

After publishing the report with updated credentials, on Power BI service I see that the connection to Azure SQL is still using SQL Authentication.

Is this an expected behaviour? How do I manage the credentials that are used to connect to the Data Source?

We are not using a Gateway to connect to the source.

Hi @bongmw ,

According to my understanding, even if you have updated the credentials in Desktop and then republished the report to Service, you will not change the credentials that you set up before in Service. I think you have to update credentials in Data Source Credentials like this:

If the problem is still not resolved, please provide detailed error information or the expected result you expect. Let me know immediately, looking forward to your reply.

Hi @SivaMani

If you mean the Data Source Credentials section of Dataset settings in Power BI Service, that is where I have looked to see whether the new credentials have taken effect.

Also I need this change to take effect at the Connection level, not at a Dataset level, if that makes sense. I do not want to have to update this every time the Dataset is published.

@bongmw,

Did you try to edit the credentials in Dataset Settings -> Data Source?
