Hi all,
Someone created a dashboard and data files for me. I publish them in the Power Bi app.
The dashboard and data files are in sharepoint.
The thing is, I update the data in sharepoint but it doesn't update in Power BI (app).
I've downloaded Power BI Desktop but I can't extract what's in the app to the desktop.
I have a gateway configured and working, but I still can't do it.
What do I need to do?
- How do I transfer the dash files (.pbix) so that I can open it in Power BI desktop, update the data source and republish it in the app?
I'd appreciate any help as I'm following along without success.
Hey @Citohara ,
You stated "The thing is, I update the data in sharepoint but it doesn't update in Power BI (app)."
Do you have the automatic refresh set up in the workspace? If you do, the refresh will run based on your schedule and it will pick up any changes.
You stated" I've downloaded Power BI Desktop but I can't extract what's in the app to the desktop."
What exactly do you mean here? Are you downloading the pbix file from the workspace? Are you trying to do something in the app itself and not the workspace? What does "extract" mean - can't you see the data?
You stated: "I have a gateway configured and working, but I still can't do it."
The gateway is in the service and uses the data source that connects to the date (SharePoint in this case.) So, this won't affect the desktop vesion of the file. Therefore, do you have access with your userid to the data and not just the person that created this for you?
You asked :"How do I transfer the dash files (.pbix) so that I can open it in Power BI desktop, update the data source and republish it in the app?"
You shouldn't have to go through the cycle like this. The process should be that you update the data in the data source, the published file automatically refreshes in the Service and then the data is automatically updated and then your App will be automatically updated. You should not be downloading/refreshing/uploading/update app process at all.
I'd appreciate any help as I'm following along without success.
