Hello,
We currently have Power BI reports server running locally so users can access their reports.
However when I sent to subsribe a user to a report there is no option for that in Power BI reporting server.
After reviewing I found out you can only do paginated reports, which does not meet our needs for subscriptions, we need to be able
to make subscriptions that have visuals and other items sent.
So I found out you have to use Power BI service for this. But then you need to set up a gateway of some sort.
I am not sure how to do this and looked everywhere.
Can anyone provide some advice on this?
1. Our Oracle database is NOT in the cloud, it is on premises.
2. I would publish the reports to the Power BI service and have to connect them to the gateway.
THANK YOU!
Hey @Anonymous ,
I consider this documentation very straightforward:
Install an on-premises data gateway | Microsoft Docs
If you follow the steps described, a gateway can be installed in less than five minutes, assuming you have a local machine that is close (due to minimizing network latency) and in the same network.
These five minutes can become 5months if different teams are involved, e.g. opening outbound ports and enabling specific addresses 😉
Hopefully, this provides some guidance-
Regards,
Tom
