Hi Everyone,
I am looking to integrate my PBI workspace with GIT and automate dev -> test -> prod release management using Azure Devops automated pipelines along with PBI Automation tools.
Questions-
The official documentation says "GIT integration supports Semantic models (except push datasets, live connections, model v1, and semantic models created from warehouse)" So, if I use direct query while fetching data will it be supported?
Is there any other way to integrate PBI with GIT & automating release management if direct query/ live connection isn't supported?
Below are the resources & links that I have gone through -

According to the official documentation, "Direct queries and composite models on Power BI datasets and Analysis Services are not supported at this time", and if a direct query is used when fetching data, it will not be supported by the Git integration.

There are several alternative ways to integrate Power BI with Git and automate release management:
1.Power BI Desktop Project: This feature, currently in preview, can be used to streamline the development process, source code management, and collaboration with Git repositories.

2.PowerShell and Power BI automation tools: You can use PowerShell or Power BI automation tools to automate the deployment process from the Azure DevOps release pipeline.

My question is similar to the above however in my case I'm not talking about GIT integration and ADO. I saw the limitations list and if I were to create just a standard deployment pipeline, not having anything to do with ADO or GIT, and I wanted to use that deployment pipeline to deploy semantic models that were Direct Query... would that even work?
I read the limitations list but the wording wasn't real clear on that. Before I bother with creating Dev/Test/Prod Power BI workspaces for each stage, AND ask for someone to pay for the associated premium capacity it seems for each of those three stage workspaces to use them with a deployment pipeline, I need to know if DirectQuery semantic models will even work with a deployment pipeline. There's zero sense in going through all this if I can't determine the things I'm dealing with can even be deployed.
