How do I download a published PBI report to Desktop that has been designated as a large model?

I want to download a published Power BI report from Service to a Desktop version (PBIX), but when I select the 'Download this file' option, it says that the file can't be downloaded, because it's a large model, is there any way around this?

Hi @emmabr

This is because the Dataset that feeds the Report is hosted on a Premium or Premium Capacity workspace amd is marked as a "large model" Dataset. This is a limitation of Power BI that you can't download the PBIX for large model datasets.

If you have access to the Dataset and it is under 10mb in size, you could change the Settings and turn off "large Model" support, which will allow downloading of the PBIX, but that may have other implications for Report speed etc.

You can find out more about Large Model Support here:

Hope this helps

Hi Stuart,

Thanks for replying

Is there any way I could copy the report into another workspace and then change the 'large model dataset' there? Or does it have to be changed in the current workspace?

Thanks
