Gateway credentials different to Desktop

Hi,

I am trying to set up a gateway to access the SQL database so I can have a report created in Desktop in Service.

In Desktop version, my connection is configured as seen below with credentials selected as "Database" and a standard username and password.

I have a gateway installed and when I try to add the source of the dataset to the gateway in PBI Service, this form appears:

(sorry its in czech language, I don't know why, everything else is in english)

As you can see, the field "Metoda ověřování" (stands for verification method or credentials) only offers Basic, Windows or OAuth2 options. So no Database as in Desktop. And none of these options works with my username and password. Why is there no Database option or what can I do to connect the add this source to the gateway?

It should work, but like you are asking the best way would be having a gateway with standard mode in a remote server that is on 24 hours a day to help you schedule refresh at any time.

The configuration of that gateway should work. You can use this post as reference but the pictures might not be up to date

I hope that fixes it

Hi Petanek! Please try your database credentials over "basic" authentication. The basic is a name used for regular authentication of the selected source. It should work.

I hope that helps,

Unfortunately this does not work. But I am not sure I am doing it right.

I have an SQL database on a remote server I am connecting to. In Power BI Desktop I go simply Get Data > SQL Server > write a server name + port and database name and those credentials via authentification type Database.

In order to load data from remote SQL server into a report published to PBI Service, I need the Data gateway, right?

I hoped that I can install a personal gateway on my computer and set it to connect to this remote server SQL database. But it is not working due to above mentioned credentials - the Basic authentification does not work.

May the reason be that I have to install the gateway in a standard mode directly on the remote server? Or should I be able to connect to the remote server SQL DB via Personal gateway installed on my computer?

Sorry if I am being a noob, I just don't feel very comfortable with those data connection things yet 🙂
