Filter a field without drilling down

I am trying to do something quite simple in PowerBi but unfortunately not sure how. I have a text field from a List and it has a set number of responses eg. approved, rejected etc. I have another text field which has departments.

I am trying to have a pie chart showing the number of responses approved only, grouped by department. I Have the department field in the legend and the responses field in the value but at the moment all of the response values are summarised together eg. approved, rejected etc.

When I add a filter though it drills down and changes what the entire page looks like, whereas I only want the filter to apply to that specific graph. How can I do this?

Hi @PowerAutomater

Here’s how you can filter the pie chart without affecting the entire page in Power BI:

  1. Add the Pie Chart:

    • Drag the Divisions field into the Legend section.
    • Drag the Responses field into the Values section and set it to "Count".
  2. Filter for "Approved" Only:

    • Click on the pie chart to select it.
    • Open the Filters on this visual pane (on the right side).
    • Drag the Responses field into this filter pane.
    • Set the filter to show only "Approved".
  3. Ensure Page Filter Isn’t Affected:

    • Since this filter is applied only in the "Filters on this visual" section, it won't impact the rest of your page.

Now, your pie chart will only show data for "Approved" responses, grouped by division, without changing the rest of your visuals.
