Removing Drill Down Filters
I created a stacked bar chart in Power Bi Desktop version 2.148.878.0, that has a mobile layout counterpart. Currently, I am finding that after drilling down in Mobile view, then switching to Desktop view to drill up, the filters cannot be removed. The result is that I am stuck with a filtered view at every drill level. Is there a way to resolve this?
Hi badger01,
Thank you for the follow up.
Based on my understanding, when you switch between Desktop and Mobile layout modes, Power BI maintains separate layout and visual state objects internally. Bookmarks capture visual states such as filters, drill levels, and selections that are specific to the active layout at the time of bookmark creation. Consequently, if you drill down in Mobile view, switch to Desktop, and then return to Mobile, the bookmark applies only to the originally saved visual instance and not to the re-rendered instance. This can result in filters being only partially retained.
Please consider the following workaround, which may help to resolve the issue:
- Publish the report to the Power BI Service. The service uses a single rendering model for Desktop and Mobile web layouts, and this issue typically does not occur there.
If the issue continues to block report delivery in your environment, please raise a support ticket using the link:Microsoft Fabric Support and Status | Microsoft Fabric
If you have any further queries, please feel free to contact the Microsoft Fabric community.
Thank you.

Hi badger01 ,
Can you try creating a bookmark for reset button(clear all the filters on the page/visual,go to bookmarks and add it).this button can be used to reset filters every time your drill down is done.
Please give Kudos or mark it as solution once confirmed.
Thanks and Regards,
Praful

Hi badger01 ,
This seems to be a bug in the latest Power BI Desktop version ,the drill state from the Mobile layout sometimes doesn’t sync back properly when switching to Desktop view.
As a workaround, you can create a “Reset” button using Bookmarks:
-
Go to your desired default view (all filters/drill cleared).
-
Create a Bookmark → check Data and Display.
-
Add a Button → link it to that bookmark.
Now, whenever you finish drilling down, you can click the button to reset the view.

Thank you both for the bookmark suggestion. I started over again and created the bookmark at the top level before drilling down in Mobile view. However, viewing the bookmark resets to a filtered view of the top level as shown below:
Instead, the bar chart is suppose to look like this:

Thankyou, Praful_Potphode and AnkitaaMishra for your response.
Hi badger01,
Thank you for the follow up.Based on my understanding, when the bookmark was created, the visual selection or visual level filter state was still applied. Consequently, the bookmark saved a filtered top level state. Bookmarks restore whatever state was captured. The remedy is to ensure that the page is precisely in the unfiltered top level state, with no visuals selected and no filters applied, and then create bookmarks that capture both Data and Display. Create separate bookmarks and corresponding buttons for Desktop and Mobile defaults.
Please find attached the screenshots and a sample .pbix file, which may assist in resolving the issue:
1. Image with no drill down applied.2. Image with drill down applied to Customer level and filtered for CustA and CustB in Desktop view.
3. Image with drill down applied to Customer level and filtered for CustA and CustB in Mobile view.
4.Image after clicking on "Reset to Top Level" button with Bookmarks removes drill down and applied filters.
We hope the information provided helps to address the problem. Should you have any further queries, please feel free to contact the Microsoft Fabric community.Thank you.

Hi v-pnaroju-msft. I played around with the file you provided and found out that if you drill down in Mobile View, switch to Desktop View, then switch back to Mobile View, the bookmark doesn't remove all the filters. The behaviour was observed on the Microsoft Store version of Power BI version 2.148.878.0. Can you confirm is this behaviour is consistent on your version?

I actually just did the testing on the pbix file that you provided. Since you already had the mobile and desktop bookmarks set up, start drilling down in Mobile or Desktop view, then switch to the other view before switching back. When you click on the bookmark at that point, you will find that only the top level of the drill down is still filtered.

Hi v-pnaroju-msft. I was just testing the desktop version of Power BI for professional development so I didn't raise a support ticket as it does not block delivery. I will keep in mind to publish the report to the Power BI service before testing out drill down features until the issue with filter clearing and view switching can be resolved.
