False Refresh

Why is the service posting a false Refreshed Date?

Whenever you try to refresh a dataset/report, it posts the date and time you tried to refresh even if it is unsuccessful.

This should only update the date and time upon successful data refresh.

False refresh dates and times are causing major issues.

Hi @WorkmanK ,

This might be a bit of semantics but I think I udnerstand what you are asking.  The last refresh date is "the last time a refresh ran" and does not necessarily indicate that the data refresh was successful.

And, there are really different definitions of "unsuccessful".  There are times where the refresh fails within Power BI and that is indicated.  But, there are times when Power BI refreshes and has no errors, but your data has not refreshed because of the data source itself.

So, really, the answer that I have done for this is to create a dashboard with the "last update date" FROM THE DATA (not the refresh date of the report/visual) and then I create an alert against that "last update date" to see if that date and today's date is more than a day or two.

All that said, if you suggest an idea to have the message within Power BI to display as last refresh date "failed" or something like that it might help resolve this issue.  Please let us know if you create the idea.
