Hi all,
We have a simple pbix that connects live to a SSAS model. The model is in a SSAS instance in a local machine. We have an on-premises gateway installed and registered with PowerBI service in a Premium per user account.
We have created connections for both accessing SQL Server and SSAS located in the local machine. Both pass the connection test.
We can connect and import data to SQL Server but when we publish the pbix that connects live to the SSAS model we get an error that the data source cannot be accessed:
Data source error{"error":{"code":"DM_GWPipeline_Gateway_MashupDataAccessError","pbi.error":{"code":"DM_GWPipeline_Gateway_MashupDataAccessError","parameters":{},"details":[{"code":"DM_ErrorDetailNameCode_UnderlyingErrorCode","detail":{"type":1,"value":"-2147467259"}},{"code":"DM_ErrorDetailNameCode_UnderlyingErrorMessage","detail":{"type":1,"value":"AnalysisServices: The following system error occurred: We can't sign you in with this credential because your domain isn't available. Make sure your device is connected to your organization's network and try again. If you previously signed in on this device with another credential, you can sign in with that credential. "}},{"code":"DM_ErrorDetailNameCode_UnderlyingHResult","detail":{"type":1,"value":"-2147467259"}},{"code":"Microsoft.Data.Mashup.ValueError.DataSourceKind","detail":{"type":1,"value":"AnalysisServices"}},{"code":"Microsoft.Data.Mashup.ValueError.DataSourcePath","detail":{"type":1,"value":"localhost;TabTestMetadata"}},{"code":"Microsoft.Data.Mashup.ValueError.Reason","detail":{"type":1,"value":"DataSource.Error"}}],"exceptionCulprit":1}}} Table: Model.
Note the credentials are the same for both SQL Server and SSAS
Any idea what might be at play?
Thanks
Note the credentials are the same for both SQL Server and SSAS
You would think that. However, the Power BI SSAS connector only accepts Windows Auth. And to make matters worse, the connection user must be cube admin.
Thanks @lbendlin
We are using Windows Auth (the only option available when creating the connection in the Service) and the windows user has a role in SSAS with full admin privileges. We actually have to take that step when step up the SSAS connection through the gateway; it would not work otherwise
It "works" for us too but nobody in their right mind would allow the gateway connection owner to be cube admin so we abandoned that scenario entirely across our company. We actually had a call with Patrick and he confirmed that Microsoft have no plans to fix that, considering SASS as legacy technology not worth investing in.
I fully agree but what I meant here is that it doesn't work for us even with the full cube privileges. Keeps failing to log in.
I dunno, stop wasting your time?
