Exceeded the amount of embed token that can be generated on a shared or ProPlus capacity.
Hi,
Good Evening / Morning / Afternoon!
We are using Power BI Premium Per User license type, and we are embedding our reports in third party application. Through JSON file by passing report parameters and we are generating embed tokens. Still, we are in development phase.
Suddenly we got,
"You have exceeded the amount of embed token that can be generated on a shared or ProPlus capacity. You need to purchase Azure capacities to generate embed tokens. See https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=868976" error.
While referring the web we found there is limitation on token generation for premium or pro licenses and we need to purchase capacities for unlimited token generation. Before purchasing embed capacities need clarifications for the below questions.
How many tokens(count) that can be generated in Power BI Premium Per User?
Is there any way to reuse the existing tokens?
Is there any way to reset the generated token count for development?
What is the expiration time for a Token?
Need your guidance on this.
Thank you!

Hi @AndrewMV ,
Thank you for the response.
Embed token generation is not truly unlimited but it is constrained by the capacity’s available resources (CPU, memory, and overall workload).
If the capacity is fully utilized, performance degradation may occur. Refer this link for detailed understanding.

Hi @AndrewMV ,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum about the issue you are encountering.
1.Power BI Premium Per User (PPU) is intended for smaller-scale use cases, and generating a large number of tokens could quickly hit the capacity limits. Power BI Premium Per User (PPU) comes with a limited number of embed tokens, especially when using shared capacity, which has typical restrictions on token generation.
2.Tokens are single-use by design. Once they are used for embedding a report, they cannot be reused.
3.Currently, there is no option to reset or delete existing tokens. This aligns with the official documentation here
4.Tokens in Power BI generally expire after a time limit which means the token has been created and used for embedding, it remains valid for sometime. After that, the token will no longer work.Refer the document here
If this post helps, please give us Kudos and consider Accept it as a solution to help the other members find it more quickly.
Regards,
Pallavi.

Hi @v-pagayam-msft,
Good Afternoon / Evening / Morning !
Thanks a lot for your reply.
I need one more clarification.
As mentioned earlier, we are using Power BI Premium Per User license type.
We planned to buy Power BI Embedded (Power BI SKU - A1).
If we purchase Power BI Embedded (Power BI SKU - A1), Whether we can get unlimited number of embed token generation? Or is there any limitation?
Thanks,
Andrew MV
