Error while adding SQL data source using on-premises gateway:

Hi,

I am trying to add an SQL data source using on-premises data gateway and receive the following error message:

I seem to be able to access the server from Power BI Desktop on the server where gateway is installed (or any other machine). Gateway is installed on Win Server 2012

Any help is much appreciated.

Hi @camelenchanter,

Underlying error message:    A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 25 - Connection string is not valid)

From the error message, please check if you have typed in the right Database name and Server name .

Best Regards,

Cherry
