Error when manually refreshing a dataset via powerbi service my workspace

Hi,

I have created a dashboard in powerbi desktop that has datasource from Azure databricks. When I manually refresh the data within Powerbi desktop and then publish the dashboard into my workspace, the dataset gets refreshed fine. However, when I try to refresh the dataset from within my workspace, I get the below error. Does anyone know what this error is and how to resolve? Thanks

Processing error: [Microsoft][ThriftExtension] (8) Authentication/authorization error occurred. Error details: Bad status with no error message: Unauthorized/Forbidden: Status code : 403

Hi @Cha-Bjoey,

If you are using Access Tokens to connect your PowerBI report to databricks, then your PAT (personal access token) might have expired. You can create a new one in databricks when you go to your workspace > Settings > Developer and then Access Tokens > Manage.

By clicking Generate new token you can get a key to plug into your PowerBI Azure Databricks connector. If your token still has not expired (because you can refresh locally), then you might want to adapt it in the PowerBI Workspace by:

1. Going to your Semantic Model

2. then Settings

3. Data source credentials

4. Databricks > Edit Credentials

5. Authentication method == Key

6. Then plug in your PAT there and sign in

It should be fine afterwards.

Hi  @Cha-Bjoey ,

Whether you have read permission in the corresponding dataset, you can enter the dataset management interface through Manage permission.

Grant the corresponding permissions to the user:

Thanks. Though I have read/write/reshare access already and still have the error.

Hi @Cha-Bjoey ,

In the semantic model settings update your credentials and authentication and see.

If it's not working create a dataflow and check whether you are seeing the same issue or not.If the dataflow refresh works then you can import the data from dataflow to your semantic model.

I hope it will be helpful.

Thanks,
