Embed report to Sharepoint online - same or separate workspaces? Access granted at report level?

Hello all

Within my organisation we routinely have separate workspaces for reports and datasets.  However, when embedding to Sharepoint online or an inhouse website do you have to keep the report and dataset in the same workspace (like you have to if you are publishing online publicly)?

Also, I only want to grant access to the report level as there is too much detail in the dataset for the consumers.  Is this possible?

Any help will be gratefully received

Hi, @SalCambs

As far as I know, when embedding a report or dataset to SharePoint Online or an in-house website, you don't necessarily have to keep them in the same workspace. However, it's important to ensure that the necessary permissions are set up correctly so that the report and dataset can be accessed by the appropriate users. It's also worth noting that if you're embedding a report, the report's visualizations and data will be sourced from the dataset, so the dataset will need to be accessible in order for the report to display properly.

The permissions to view the report are set within the Power BI service. You can provide access to the report within the Power BI service by adding users to the app workspace within the Power BI service and the SharePoint page. You can also grant users access to your report by adding tiles to dashboard and sharing the dashboard with the users.
