Dynamically scheduling the dataset refresh in PBI Service

Hi,

I have a report which is run on a quarterly basis. On each of the quarter months i.e. Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec, the user will run the report, after the first Friday of the month, on the following Monday.

So the first Fri of the month can fall anytime from the 1st to 7th of the month, so the user wants the dataset refresh dynamically scheduled so that they get the updated data when they access the report on the following Monday.

Is this possible to schedule in PBI Service?

Thanks,

Vishy

Hi,

You can easily configure refresh time on Power BI Service scheduled refresh control pane.

See this:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/refresh-scheduled-refresh#scheduled-refresh

Hi @Anonymous

If you need more control over the refresh schedule, you may want to check Power Automate recurrence trigger and on that trigger refresh Power BI dataset.

Let me know how it goes.

Hi @ranbeermakin ,

Ok let me check the Power Automate recurrence trigger, will let you know if that helps.

Thanks,

Vishy

Awesome that will help for sure.

Just remember if you are using Power BI Pro you only got 8 refreshes a day.

Hi there

You can always go into the Power BI Service and manually refresh the dataset when you want it to be updated?

Would that work

If so you go into the App Workspace where the report is saved. Click on Datasets and then click on Refresh Now

Hi @GilbertQ ,

Yes I can manually go and refresh the dataset when needed but was looking at ways to dynamically schedule the refresh if possible.

Thanks,

Vishy
