Hi,
I am not able to download the certain power bi files from the service as the option is greyed out, report is built using a live connection to another power bi dataset. I have the correct access & I am aware that there is no RLS or Inc. refresh applied. The source semantic model is using a live connection a SSAS model.
Please help!
Thanks,
Mani

Hi @Max_701
The "Download .pbix" option is greyed out because Power BI does not allow downloading reports built with a live connection to an SSAS model. This is a platform limitation. Additionally, your organization’s tenant settings might restrict downloading reports, or workspace settings could explicitly block it. Even with proper access to the report, the dataset owner might have restricted the download feature. Since the report is connected live to SSAS, you won’t be able to download it directly. Instead, use Power BI Desktop to connect to the SSAS model and recreate or modify the report. If you suspect tenant-level restrictions, contact your Power BI administrator to verify and adjust the settings if needed.

Thanks for replying!
I encountered the same issue but thankfully followed this article to be able to download the pbix so all credit to them. It worked for me just now on the November 2024 release.
Hi, @Max_701
According to your description, the "Download .pbix file" option in Power BI is greyed out, which can be due to several reasons:
1. The report was published using an older version of Power BI Desktop, please upgrade Power BI Desktop to the latest version and try again.

2. This could also be a caching issue in your browser. Try clearing your browser cache or using a different browser and check if the problem persists.

3. Please read the limitations and caveats of the feature to check if the report does not contain one of them.

Hello,
Thanks for the response.
I did go through most of the above links & it is still the same. File was published with a version after 2020 (that I am certain of) & I have tested it using both chrome & edge. I did go through the limitation part as well but I am still struggling.
