Does Power BI RLS support MS Teams group

Hi,

Is it possible to add a MS Teams grouping to RLS role as shown below? Pls kindly help. Thks!

  • Hi Anonymous

Sorry but I think the answer is no.

You can use the following groups to set up row level security.

    • Distribution Group
    • Mail-enabled Group
    • Security Group

Note, however, that Office 365 groups are not supported and cannot be added to any roles.

As Teams groups are Office 365 groups that means they can't be used in RLS.

See : Row-level security (RLS) with Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Docs

    Hope this helps

    Stuart

Burningsuit your answer is 100% accurate. But I am wondering how is that an acceptable situation knowing that MSFT is pushing, with good reason) the use of M365 Groups everywhere else? Dynamic Microsft 365 Groups drive most of our groups, permissions, sharing, ... but cannot be used in this situation.

Then, what is the strategy going forward? Is it to duplicate all M365 Groups with corresponding Security Groups? With nesting?

Any recommendation from Microsoft would be welcomed.

      Thanks,

      Jad

I'd like to know as well the reason why Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) groups are not supported in RLS or in giving direct access to reports.

What's frustrating is that it's already possible to add Microsoft365 groups for Power BI App audiences, but this is useless if the same groups can't also be used for RLS.

There seems to be a suggestion for this idea since 2019 but it barely has any upvotes. Please upvote so Microsoft can see it! https://ideas.fabric.microsoft.com/ideas/idea/?ideaid=da3e0337-716f-4444-9718-0d82648a68fd

would also like to understand the reasoning.. duplicating the 365 groups to something else does not seem best practice to me
