Deployment pipeline branching / distribution

Hi,

We're looking for a way to publish reports based on a single template to multiple workspaces with different parameters for each workspace. Ideally the solution should look like below:

The idea is to only maintain a single "master" template in our CI/CD proces, while being able to distribute it to different workspaces with different parameters for customization purposes. Are there any current solutions avaiable to achieve this?

As a feature request, this might be a possible addition to the current deployment pipeline- but with the added ability to "branch out" from test -> development?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts,

And I thought Deployment Pipelines are a solution looking for a problem...

Anyway, have you considered using ALM Toolkit to distribute your ITG meta data to the PROD environments?

ALM might be a good option - however as far as i know there is no CLI avaiable, so automation will be a challenge (ie. if i want to distribute the template to 5 different PROD workspaces, i will have to do it manually for each)

Thanks,

Out of curiosity what is your business need for that setup? I work in a large enterprise company with thousands of Power BI developers and we don't use deployment pipelines at all.

I work in retail. We want to create reports for each of our stores based on a common template so that each report is identical (except for the data source which we can change based on parameters). The idea is to only maintain and develop one single template that we can distribute to several store managers without having to copy-paste a template .pbix file each time for every single store.

Perhaps i am looking for the right solution the wrong place?

I would think that this is the exact use case for .pbit files (Power BI templates). What part of that process is inconvenient for you?

Templates are a great option - i will look more into it. I am still looking for a way to "one-click" update every report built from the template. My current understanding is that using templates would require me to re-publish reports if i update the template manually for each store manager?

If i make an update to the template, i would like a way to update all reports built on that template in a simple way. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Another suggestion would be to look into how ALM Toolkit does these things
