Enter credentials for one database connection, the credentials for the other connection automatically change.

That is a known limitation.  Find a way to rename your data sources (for example use the IP address for one and the FQDN for the other).  You can also try to remove all credentials and then when re-authenticating, try to apply the credentials only to the lowest level.
